The inherent categorization of the qualitative information that makes up ones being, acts as a form of diminishing a person into a piece of data. This body of work explores the various facets of identity through cultural and queer aesthetics. The self-portraiture engages with queer politics and histories, referencing Art &amp; Queer Culture&nbsp;by Catherine Lord and Richard Meyer.&nbsp; Moreover, the works subtly subvert heterotopias through a challenging of the current nuclear and heterosexual domestic model. &nbsp; the who am i? series Having also been inspired by Art Nouveau, the art preforms as investigations and celebrations of the femme, through a romanticisation of the female form, from clothing to poses. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Having been inspired by The Textility of Making by Tim Ingold, which explains how the creative process seeks to embrace material possibilities and transformations, the series explores the freedoms embedded within material processes. The expanding foam works in direct correlation to Ingold’s intuitive perception of making, as through the unpredictability of the foam the pieces, whilst structured, are transformed and almost ruled by its decisions. As such this project aims to investigate the breast form through distortions of its anatomy, through processes that employ camp codes of ‘the unnatural: of artifice of exaggeration, through stylized modes of creation (Sontag 1999:53). As such Cro-slay coins the fusing of the words crochet and slay to overtly queer the craft process of crochet. Within Geographies of Exclusion (1995:23) Sibley explores how, within the framework of black and white, racial difference constitute as otherness. Referencing bell hooks’ exploration of white attitudes surrounding that of ‘sameness’ within the white race, Sibley concludes how anything different is separated into that of ‘not-white and other’. This idea of otherness in relation to race politics is wholly identifiable with that of abjection. To understand and refer to non-white, non- heteronormative and therefore non-conforming bodies (within the Western sphere) as abject is not to delineate and differentiate oneself as other but to understand how identificatory regimes and colonial histories have positioned these bodies in difference within society. Philips (2014:20-21) understands how ‘groups that have traditionally been thought of as marginal are reclaiming their difference and embracing their abjection’, allowing for a space in which othered beings are able to challenge current socio-political structures through their recognition of themselves as abject to ‘problematize conventions of socially constructed… categories’. &nbsp; Social abjection stems from Bataille’s paradox of ‘inclusive exclusivity’ as a result of ‘social insecurity’ within the body politic, understood through prejudices faced by minority groups (ibid.: 9). Where the abject desire is born. the abject desire &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The abject desire stems from Imogen Tyler’s concept of social abjection (Revolting Subjects: Social Abjection and Resistance within Neoliberal Britain) which investigates the rejection of marginalised bodies on the basis of difference i.e., race, religion, culture etc. The works are also influenced by The Abject of Desire: the Aestheticization of the Unaesthetic in Contemporary Literature and Culture by Konstanze Kutzbach and Monika Mueller.&nbsp; The sculptures created explore how desirability can be elicited within the viewer, through familiar forms and materials that reference the body, specifically skin and flesh yet use distorted forms that are removed from the skeletal figure. about &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; As such through sculptural approaches, Ifrah aims to uncover how the abject desire can be provoked within the liminal spaces of the bodily familiar.
